What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are wafer-thin tooth coverings made from porcelain or composite ceramic resin. They hug the contours of your teeth to achieve their goal to mask and correct smile imperfections like:

  • Minor cracks, chips, or fractures

  • Small or wide gaps

  • Slightly crooked teeth

  • Pointy teeth

  • Irregularly shaped teeth

  • Short teeth

  • Dentin discoloration

  • Heavy enamel staining that doesn’t respond to bleaching

Berkshire Dental custom-makes your veneers to match or enhance the color, shape, and size of your natural teeth.

How do you get veneers?

If you’re interested in veneers, the first step is a consultation with Berkshire Dental. If veneers are right for you, we’ll schedule a few follow-up visits.

During your second visit, our team starts by gently filing away an extremely thin layer of your surface enamel. This makes space for your veneers to rest comfortably against your teeth and sit naturally.

Once they’ve done that, our team takes impressions and digital images of your teeth, which they then send to the lab where engineers fabricate them to fit perfectly. Before you go home, Berkshire Dental outfits you with temporary veneers.

When your veneers arrive at Berkshire Dental, you come back in for a fitting. After your team removes your temporary veneers, they may re-etch your teeth for better adhesion. Then, they fit your permanent veneers and make any adjustments they deem necessary.

Once you’re satisfied that the veneers are comfortable and look how you want them, our team bonds them in place.

How long do veneers last?

Veneers are strong, stain-resistant, and typically last 10-20 years. To make them last as long as possible, practice good oral hygiene, and schedule regular dental cleanings. When you can, avoid hard or sticky foods. Don’t chew on hard objects like ice, pencils, or popcorn seeds.

Inevitably, your veneers will wear out, and you’ll need new ones. When that happens, Berkshire Dental will be there to support you and outfit you with perfect replacements.
